Soon after bonsai trees made there way to Japan in the 14th century, in the 1800s and beyond, bonsai scattered to the rest of the world with great influence from its past. The Japanese have always had a sense of public relations with other countries which helped bringing it global. Whether good or bad, their people were known and culture being discovered. The Japanese drive to westernize itself brought there traditions into the spotlight, bonsai was no exception.
The Japanese exhibited their bonsai tools and art to Great Britain. Additionally, they had bonsai on display during the international events, fairs, and hosting. Bonsai was even displayed during the Olympics and offered as gifts to other countries, prime ministers, and even to the United States of America. Gifts of Japanese Cherry Trees were given to Washington D.C. and soon after gifts of bonsai followed.
Today, people from all over the world are learning and the community is truly global. Thanks to the Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese influences, for now the rest of the world can enjoy this ancient art as well.
