Chinese Penjing History

China is the birthplace of bonsai and the tools we use today, but better referred to as penjing in the native language. In fact, the first recorded Chinese characters for bonsai were two characters "pen" and "tsai." Later "pensai" was popularized into the famous spelling of "bonsai" as we know it today. Many of the famous styles and tree species used in modern bonsai have come from China, such as the popular Trident Maple. The history dates back so long ago and goes through so many milestones that this section needs to be broken down into important phases of history the Chinese had with penjing.
