Bonsai is a Japanese word that simply translates into "tree in pot," or more specifically planting "in tray." However, although Bonsai was experienced a renaissance in Japan, the art is of Chinese origins. Therefore bonsai is the Chinese and Japanese art of modeling a tree through the use of bonsai tools and techniques, into a smaller version for show and appreciation. But it is not only putting a tree into a pot, it goes beyond this. And through the years more formalities have been standardized, yet the use of traditional bonsai supplies have stayed the same for the most part, like shears and concave cutters. Some improvements were made, like using aluminum for bonsai wire, and advantageous materials like vermiculite in bonsai soil mixes. The harmony and relationship of the tree and the bonsai container are essential and must be looked at together. It's not only the selection of the pot, and it's not just the beauty of the tree, rather, it is the whole combination. The bonsai pot must be a harmonious housing for the bonsai tree and vice-versa. In addition, the tree cannot just be a living planted shrub; it must have certain artistic characteristics, such as leave proportion, root structure, trunk tapering, branch placements, soil selection, and more. Many styles exist, and many could be accepted for mastery; however, in essence, the bonsai tree must be made into an art reflecting a story, an attitude, a style, it needs to be art. This is done by restricting its growth in a small container, and by applying years of proven techniques and know-how. A successful bonsai often resembles the look of an aged or ancient tree in a small pot. They can be real tiny, medium, or even large, sometimes the height of certain trees, but still made to be a miniature version of the host found in real-life nature.
Asian tradition holds bonsai gardening with high regard and respect, as many mold their lives around the art by attempting with age and experience to establish a strong foundation of roots, thick and healthy trunks with simple but full branches. Our function is to help you on your journey.
